Muller corners UK dessert factory

Trifles are among the products which Muller will take over production of A creamery which has produced yoghurt and desserts for more than 100 years has been taken over by German dairy giant Muller.

Muller will take over production of mousse and trifles which are made under licence for Cadbury following the £4.3 million acquisition of the factory at Minsterley in Shropshire from M&S sandwich maker Greencore.

The move by the producers of Muller Rice, whose UK headquarters are in nearby Market Drayton, comes months after its bought fresh milk producer Robert Wiseman Dairies.

Muller UK chief executive Ronald Kers said: "Muller has the leading position in the UK desserts sector and we are ambitious to build on this.
"This acquisition gives us the opportunity to further develop Cadbury brand's presence as part of our portfolio, and bring affordable luxury to the category."

The German company takes over production as well as the 80 employees of the Minsterley factory in January 2013.

The Minsterley Creamery site started as a local milk processing factory in 1906, with four employees. More than a century later it is now home to the largest yoghurt producer in the UK.
